Avocados
The avocado is a versatile fruit, simple to prepare and easy to eat. It is perhaps the exotic fruit that least lives up to this title, as its uninterrupted presence throughout the year on the market has made it so popular that it has become part of most consumers’ diets.
At Provelpack, we take care to keep our customers stocked throughout the year. To this end, we market domestic avocados from September to May, and from April to November, we import avocados from Peru and Chile.
Nutritional properties
It is a very high-energy and protein-rich food that vegetarians use as a substitute for proteins usually obtained from meat, eggs, or cheese. However, its high-quality fat does not increase cholesterol.
The flesh is very rich in mineral salts (iron and copper), organic acids such as folic acid, and vitamin E, with antioxidant properties. It is also low in sugar, making it suitable for diabetics.
Hass Avocado
It is the star variety in Spain and the most widespread throughout the world. It is available in greengrocers’ shops all year round, from both hemispheres.
It is pear-shaped and dark green on the tree, turning purple to black when ripe. Its skin is rough and thick. Its flesh is of very high quality and not very fibrous, with a hint of nutty flavour.
Bacon Avocado

FUERTE AVOCADO
Its flesh is pale yellow in colour with a smooth, creamy texture and a pleasant nutty flavour. Together with the Hass variety, Fuerte avocados have the best flesh quality and rank second among the commercial varieties.
LAMB HASS AVOCADO
This variety was only recently introduced in Spain. This fruit is very similar to Hass, but slightly larger and wider in size. It is harvested later in the year. Its skin turns black as it matures.

Tips
In recent years, the demand for “ready-to-eat” avocados has grown, and they are now commonplace in supermarket chains and greengrocers. To adapt to market requirements, Provelpack has ripening chambers and offers its customers the option of buying the product before it is ripe.
When buying an avocado, it is necessary to pay attention to the hardness of the fruit. A ripe avocado is one that yields slightly to finger pressure. The skin can also give us clues about its condition: the more ripe it is, the darker it tends to look. If the avocado is already ripe, it should be kept in the refrigerator to halt the ripening process.
Avocados are very popular for using in salads, guacamole, as a garnish for fish, paired with cheese… They have a mild flavour and a fresh, buttery texture that makes them an ideal component of many dishes.
