Mangoes

Provelpack’s mangoes are a national product, and we distribute them for three months out of the year.

There are hundreds of varieties of mangoes. Given the weather conditions in southern Spain, we can produce eight to ten of these.

 

Nutritional properties

It is a sweet and refreshing fruit with a high nutritional value. They are suitable for anyone to eat.

Mangoes contain carbohydrates, sugar, dietary fibre, vitamins, iron, calcium, and many other important minerals that provide our bodies with antioxidant and anti-carcinogenic properties, protecting us from various diseases.

Mangoes also have digestive properties, as their high magnesium and fibre content triggers a satiating effect, which is beneficial for people who are overweight or diabetic.

OSTEEN MANGO

It is oblong-oval in shape and has a purple skin colour. The edible quality of the fruit is great: sweet taste, moderate acidity, juicy texture, and no fibrous strands. The weight per unit ranges from 400 to 550 g and it has a small seed.

KENT MANGO

It is large in size (500-800 grams) and rounded-oval in shape. It is juicy and not very fibrous, and has a pleasant taste and a high sugar content. Small seed.

Keitt Mango

Medium to large oval-shaped fruit, weighing 450-650 g. Rounded base, slightly oblique inserted peduncle. It is yellowish green in colour with a light red blush. Its skin is not easily separated from its yellow flesh. It doesn’t contain fibres, except for the part closest to the seed.

TOMMY ATKINS MANGO

Medium to large fruit (450 to 710 grams) and oblong-oval in shape. It has a large, rounded top with a small, curved point off to one side. Yellow-orange in colour with patches that can be light to dark red, with a purplish-brown spot on the side exposed to the sun. Its seed is long and slightly curved with long, fine fibres. It is resistant to bruising and has a longer shelf life than other varieties.

PALMER MANGO

This oval-shaped mango variety stands out for being not very large. Its skin is reddish yellow in colour.
Its flesh is very soft and sweet and has excellent fibres.

Types of Packaging

Mangoes are usually packed in 4 kg cartons, but can also be packed in a 2-unit plastic box or as single units, either in Flow Pack or stretch film.

Tips

To identify the degree of ripeness, hold the mango in the palm of your hand and if it yields gently to very light pressure, it is ready to eat. It is not enough to go by the colour of the skin, as there are varieties that look green even when ripe. A good aroma can also be an indicator of optimal ripeness. Once ripe, it should be kept out of the fridge and only put in the fridge for two hours before eating it in order to cool it down.
